Percy Pud 10km : 2005 Race Report

Jason Ward of Altrincham & DAC set a new course record in the annual New Balance Percy Pud 10km organised by Steel City Striders. His time of 30 minutes 4 seconds broke the old record by 29 seconds.At the half way point Ward had established a lead of over 30 seconds from Rotherham’s Richard Harris but then showed his class over the last 5km to finish nearly 2 minutes ahead. Andrew Thake from Hallamshire Harriers finished in third spot.
Wakefield's Penny Thackray was 1st past the post in the women's race in a time of 35 minutes 50 seconds from 2nd placed Julia Wilson from Hallamshire Harriers.
The fine weather attracted a strong field of well over 1000 runners and produced some fast times including a fine performance from 6th place man Sammy Rachid of Liverpool Pembroke who was first male veteran home in 33 minutes 7 seconds. Barnsley's Peter Goodall was first male vet over 50 in 14th place with a time of 34 minutes 11 seconds.
Further down the field Sports Minster and Sheffield M.P. Richard Caborn finished the race in 53 minutes 24 seconds, putting him 17th in the male vet over 60 category!
